over 60s can't get enough

The baby boomer generation that grew up in the 50s and 60s has boosted the popularity of train travel by record numbers.

Figures released by ATOC showed that there were over 50,000 journeys a day made by over 60s in the UK last year - with the most active being in Reading, Darlington, Lincoln and York.

Michael Roberts of ATOC, said:“Whether it’s a journey to visit friends and family or a day trip to another part of the country, increasing numbers of older people are choosing the train as the way to get to their destination."

The fact that older people get a third off train fares with the Senior Railcard shows that if people are given the right reason to change their behaviour, they will.
